7 Letters, 7 Churches: Compromise in Pergamos

Southside Baptist Church
Sunday, January 18, 2015 - Morning Service
Pastor Bishop Helsley
Revelation 2:12-17

Summary: As Jesus writes this third letter, He addresses the church in Pergamos, a church that is being pressured from within to compromise their faith and beliefs for the sake of social acceptance.

Law versus Grace

Law not meant to impose penalty for commission of a offense, nor to inflict injury
Law - torah from OT; to give instruction, teaching, or to train

Adam and Eve in garden of Eden disobeyed God
• Eve - sorrow in child birth
• Adam - work by sweat of brow
• Both cursed to die
• Cain slew Able
• Cain was marked by God and protected , even though he had murdered his brother Able
• When righteous men of God (sons of G0d) left righteousness to be with unrighteous women (daughters of men)
• God looks less at your actions and more at what is in your heart
○ In Satan is evil to disobey God
• One rotten fruit will spoil the whole bag, bunch, or bushel

Commandments
• Moses received the commandments to teach to the people
• Obey the teaching, law will make you prosperous
• Blessing will overtake you when you keep the law
• If you don’t obey you will lose it all, one night stand instead of marriage, end needing public assistance, welfare, cheating on test but when you get to college find that you cant cheat and end of put out
• Carrying unforgiveness is drudgery in your life; you have to obey and release it, forgive, love even those that have not done the same for you
• We can be infected by being around sinful things, people ; the law helps us to set boundaries to overcome sin and not be spoiled by unrighteousness

Reprobate
• For the spoiled God wanted to give you his best so God rejects you
• That with
• Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under gr

3 John 1:1-7

The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers; 6 Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well: 7 Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

2 John 1:7-13

7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. 12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. 13 The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.

1-4-15 Message: "Unrestricted Access!"

The law is dead and we are now married, by grace, to Christ! It is folly to try and revive the law. All sincere souls have access to God, without restrictions. We have no right to label unclean or common those whom God has deemed clean by reason of faith in and obedience to His Gospel!

Looking For Jesus

Hello and welcome to Salem UMC!!!
This is pastor Bob Tuttle's sermon for January 4th, 2015.

"The Consolation of Israel," Luke 2:21-40. 12/28/2014; Rev. R. Scott MacLaren

When young people walk into a small church and discover the pews scarcely populated by elderly members, their first thought might be to look for another church because nothing is happening there. That may indeed be the case, but often there much to learn from the elderly. They have a depth of experience, especially in spiritual matters, that the young would do well to heed. Watch as Pastor MacLaren speaks of two elderly saints in the Temple who said some very profound things when the baby Jesus arrived at the Temple with Mary and Joseph. Perhaps you should hear what they had to say as well! This sermon was preached at First Presbyterian Church in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, on December 28, 2014. First Church is a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The Rev. R. Scott MacLaren is the pastor.
