Can Secular Music Point Us to God? Our Tribute to Dolly

Don't forget to grab your free scripture journal at PrayingChristianWomen.com/journal today!

Have you ever wondered if a secular country song could actually bring you closer to God? Or if you can only truly worship while listening to Christian music?

This week, Alana and Jaime honor the incredible legacy of the late Dolly Parton with a unique conversation on how to find the Holy Spirit in unexpected places—and how everyday music can become a powerful template for prayer.

In this episode, Alana and Jaime tackle the imaginary line we often draw between "sacred" and "secular" media. They unpack the idea that if a song isn't promoting sin, it can actually be a tool to draw us closer to the Lord, since we are called to do everything for His glory. They discuss why taking pleasure in the beautiful, ordinary aspects of the human experience perfectly honors God’s design for our creativity, and why themes of family, poverty, and love are deeply biblical.

Jaime breaks down the profound spiritual themes hidden inside Dolly's autobiographical "Coat of Many Colors," and shares a moving story about a handmade prayer shawl to show how we can weave prayer into our physical actions.

Then, Alana walks you step-by-step through her tactile Bible study method, showing exactly how to use a physical concordance to turn the lyrics of Dolly’s "Light of a Clear Blue Morning" into an interactive journey through Scripture.

You’ll walk away with a fresh appreciation for Dolly's unifying legacy, a reminder of the incredible freedom we have to find God in all things, and practical wisdom on how to make your favorite secular playlist a springboard for worship.

A Prayer for the Night Before Change | Your Nightly Prayer

If you're entering a new month or season with uncertainty, Isaiah 43:2 offers a promise to hold onto: “I will be with you.”

God doesn't promise that we'll never experience deep waters or difficult seasons. He promises His presence through them.

Tonight, release what you cannot control and rest knowing the God who walks beside you is also already ahead of you.

Kristian Stanfill Says Gen Z Is Turning to God: ‘It’s Beautiful’

Passion Music’s Kristian Stanfill joins Crosswalk Talk's Michael Foust to discuss the remarkable hunger for God he’s witnessing among Gen Z and college students across the country. Stanfill says he can’t remember seeing this kind of desire to gather, study God’s Word and share the Christian faith, pointing to the 2023 Asbury outpouring as a significant moment in the movement. He also takes us inside the Passion Conference, where 45,000 college students gathered to worship, with some lining up as early as 3 a.m. Plus, Stanfill discusses Passion Music’s new album, Just That Good, and the heart behind its message of joy and gratitude.

Michael Behe Explains Why the More Science Discovers, the More It Points to God

Professor and biochemist Michael Behe joins Crosswalk Talk's Michael Foust to explain why he believes the more science discovers about life and the universe, the more the evidence points to God. Behe, a leading advocate of intelligent design and the scientist behind the concept of “irreducible complexity,” discusses molecular machinery, the complexity of the cell and the apparent fine-tuning of the universe. He also addresses scientific materialism on college campuses and why he believes it can leave students struggling with questions of meaning and purpose. Behe shares his favorite everyday argument for the existence of God and explains why he believes science and faith are not enemies. He also discusses the new film The Story of Everything and his hope that it will challenge audiences to reconsider what modern scientific discoveries tell us about design, purpose and a Creator.

A Prayer for Expressing Anger at Injustices in the World

When injustice, exploitation, or oppression makes you angry, Scripture gives us permission to bring that anger honestly to God.

Psalm 52 shows David naming evil while still entrusting judgment to the Lord.

This prayer asks God to keep our anger from becoming hatred or revenge and to teach us how to walk in justice, mercy, courage, and truth.

Military Mother Surprises Young Daughter With Return At School

Get the tissues out and watch this happy reunion! Watch as a military mother surprises her young daughter. This will make your whole day.

The video shows an exciting reunion. A young girl who is only eight years old stands on her school stage. The two adults hold her hands, and she is asked to tell the student body her name. She replies that her name is Harlem. This Louisiana school puts together an amazing surprise.

The man with the microphone explains to Harlem that she is going to welcome their special guest. He puts the mic up to Harlem, and she shyly says, “Welcome to our special guest.” Suddenly, Harlem begins to look up and realizes that her mother is dressed in a military uniform, standing before her eyes. She is walking towards Harlem with a teddy bear in her hand. Harlem runs to her mother in tears, calling out, “Mama!” in excitement. Everyone cheers in the audience. It is a celebration.

This Mom’s Return Is a Reminder of God’s Love

This video is incredibly emotional and reminds us of the great sacrifice from every single family that is involved in the military. It is a sacrifice for all of those connected to the service member, as well as the service member. We can be reminded to honor those around us who are serving in the military. We can pray for them, support their loved ones while they are away, and be a listening ear on the hard days.

As we watch a military mother surprises young daughter, may we be inspired. God’s love for us is awaiting a precious homecoming, too. He told us that one day He is coming back and we too will have a celebration at our reunion with Him.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
